Talk Money Week Day 5: Tackling Food Insecurity

Food poverty is a growing problem in the UK. Millions have been pushed below the breadline and have found themselves struggling to feed their families.

The Trussell Trust have reported record levels of people needing support with food between April and September 2022, with 320,000 people accessing food banks across the country, a 40 per cent increase over 2021.

People experiencing food poverty either can’t afford to buy adequate nutritious food, have difficulty accessing it, or both. This can be because of a long-term problem or a short-term crisis.

To combat this, Warrington has some great affordable community food spaces, helping people save money on their food bills and stretch their budgets further. Not only do they provide support to people who need it, they also help to tackle food waste, preventing surplus food going to landfill.

Warrington Food Network has a useful interactive map of the sources of help in the Warrington area. Warrington Food Bank also has a helpful guide on how to get help.
