Our WHA residents didn’t let lockdown stop them celebrating the 75th Anniversary of VE Day!

All our retirement schemes held socially distanced outdoor parties, while LifeTime members and WHA residents enjoyed a Live Virtual Concert by singing trio ‘The Fabulous Females’ who through the power of modern technology,  performed a range of songs from the 30’s and 40’s ‘live’ from their living rooms into the homes of our residents.

Residents at Lyon Court, St Johns, Lowry Close, Raven Court and Epsom Gardens all took advantage of the beautiful weather, dressed in their best red, white and blue and decorated their gardens, so that could come together safely and celebrate.  They enjoyed cakes, tea and the occasional tipple while listening to classic wartime songs such as ‘We’ll Meet Again’ and ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’.  Epsom Gardens residents wanted to say a special thank you to Tracy and Alan from the local Co Op in Appleton for the donation of cakes, that they enjoyed during their celebrations.

Lowry Close resident Bernard Whitley, also managed to stream the Fabulous Females Concert Live to his neighbours, so they were able to enjoy the live music during their VE day celebrations.

Bernie Hubble, Independent Living Coordinator said ‘Despite lockdown, we all thought it was important to try and allow our residents to enjoy VE Day.  In normal circumstances we would have all been having VE Day parties, inviting other family and friends and having live entertainment, so we thought of creative ways to still have some of these things happen, always ensuring our residents were safe and socially distancing.  We have been really impressed with the effort they went to and know that a good time was had by all!’

The team at WHA also has plans to revisit the VE Day celebrations and World War Two later in the year when it is safe to do so.  Working with the Warrington’s Armed Forces Community Support Hub we had planned to bring you a VE Day themed ENGAGE event this year, however as it is currently on hold, check out our You Tube channel to see a little preview of what we’ve been planning  https://bit.ly/3fNPoQP
