Governance

The Association is controlled by a Board, which is elected annually by shareholders of the Association.  Tenant members are directly elected by all tenants of the Association.  We welcome applications to become shareholders from anyone with an interest in the work of the Association.  Shareholders buy a £1 share in the Association.

The Board is responsible for the overall control of the affairs of the Association, including monitoring performance of all its functions and the determination of resources to meet its financial and other obligations.  It must ensure the financial viability of the Association and any projects it commissions.  Board members should; uphold the rules, values and objectives of the Association, uphold the Association’s core policies including our commitment to equality of opportunities in the provision of services and contribute to and share responsibility for the Board’s decisions.  They should prepare for and attend meetings, training sessions and other events, represent the Association on occasions, declare any relevant interests, respect confidentiality of information and uphold the National Housing Federation’s Code of Governance.

In recruiting new members, the Board will consider the potential skills and experience which can be offered by new applicants. At any given time, the Board will view new applications in the light of the following core skills identified by the Tenant Services Authority: housing needs, resident needs and concerns, social care, strategic management, general business skills, finance, legal matters, community relations and needs, working with local authorities, property development and building, public relations and management of information technology.

The Association aims to comply with the National Housing Federation 2010 Excellence in Governance and Standards of Conduct.

The Board is responsible for setting the objectives of the Association and ensuring these are met.
