WHA & LifeTime Nominated for Award

WHA are delighted to announce that our LifeTime service has been shortlisted for an award.

The annual Tpas Awards showcases the compelling and inspirational success stories of tenants, landlords and contractors working together across the communities of England, celebrating and rewarding the people, ideas and organisations that shape the tenant involvement work of tomorrow.

The Award for Community Focused Service/Product of the Year recognises a product or service that has made a tangible difference to the lives of tenants and communities. Products or services, for example, designed to make communication easier, get communities digitally engaged together or enable residents to manage their homes better can all have a big impact in people’s lives. There will be products or services that are focused on saving communities’ money, reducing isolation or improving security as well as products that may be focused on issues such as skills or employment.

At its most basic LifeTime is a ‘youth club for the elderly’, but to some people, it’s been a real “lifeline”.

This is a user-led project which seeks to build capacity in the community to deliver opportunities for people to connect, be active and keep learning.

As well as devising and funding its own timetable of events, LifeTime is a facilitator for many other organisations.  In terms of locations, activities take place across Warrington at a number of community facilities.  However, the heart of the network is the purpose-built LifeTime Centre in Warrington town centre.  This warm and welcoming space provides participants a place to visit for a quick drink & chat, to use a computer, or attend one of up to 50 educational or support groups per week.

Margaret, WHA Tenant and Volunteer at LifeTime says “The volunteer team is a very friendly group and we pull together to hopefully make LifeTime a happy place where the over 50’s meet and enjoy themselves.  As a retired person, being a volunteer gives me a sense of purpose and it’s a worthwhile experience which I would recommend to any retiree”

Mags, a Volunteer, who at the age of 77 gives two days of her time says “it’s a very friendly atmosphere and we all work together as a team to ensure that people are happy and enjoying life – I have been fortunate to have had a good life myself and by volunteering can give something back to the community”

The Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday 16th March 2018, at the Hilton Manchester where the winner will be announced.
